Bereavement Poetry and Prose

Would you like to contribute to this page?

Many bereaved parents find it helpful to share their experiences with others and to hear from parents in similar positions to themselves. As part of this process, we are building a database of stories, meaningful poems or prose that have helped you or others through the grieving process. Bereavement poetry such as this can be an excellent tool in connecting with others'. As well as personal reflection, these meaningful words make powerful poems for funerals.

The Rose Beyond the Wall

The Rose Beyond the Wall

A rose once grew where all could see

Sheltered beside a garden wall

And, as the days past swiftly by

It spread its branches, straight and tall

One day, a beam of light shone through

A crevice that had opened wide

The rose bent gently toward its warmth

Then passed beyond to the other side

Now, you who deeply feel its loss

Be comforted, the rose blooms there

It's beauty even greater now

Nurtured by God's own loving care.
