Many bereaved parents find it helpful to share their experiences with others and to hear from parents in similar positions to themselves. As part of our grief support, we are building a database of stories, meaningful poems or prose that have helped you or others through the grieving process. These meaningful words offer reassurance, relief from distress, or a much-needed conncection to someone who understands.

Stay at Home

My beautiful daughter, Olivia, was born on 19 July 1993.  She was my first child and my mother's first grandchild.  My father had died suddenly at 57, after my wedding in 1992.  I became pregnant with Olivia almost immediately, a very blessed, happy event after so much sadness.  She was followed by her sister, Georgia, 16 months later and because of the closeness of their ages the pair shared a close bond, common interests and friends.

Olivia grew up in Scotland and led a happy childhood, I am so thankful I was able to be a 'stay at home Mum' for ten years.  Olivia excelled in everything she did at school, this was down to her natural work ethic and sheer determination to succeed in life.  Above all Olivia was blessed with a big heart and was always there when a friend called upon her for help or advice.  She was a very loving daughter, sister, grand-daughter, niece and cousin.

In 2009 Olivia and Georgia had the opportunity to join their Father in Bahrain, they would be staying for two years whilst doing their A levels.  It was a chance to see a different part of the world and experience a different culture.  With a heavy heart I let them go.

On 15 December 2010 my lovely daughter was knocked down whilst crossing the road on a night out.  With extensive head injuries she was taken to hospital.  She was flown back to Scotland on 28 February, still in her induced coma.  After fantastic care in the Western General in Edinburgh she finally had the fit that was to end her short life.  My precious girl died on 16 March 2011, aged 17.

I used to tell my two daughters on a regular basis that I loved them more than the universe, they used to raise their eyes to the sky and laugh, I am so glad I did.
